The DEP issued 79 enforcement orders statewide in January, according to the department’s database. Only 8 of those orders resulted in fines for Western Mass companies. There were no fines assessed in January for Central Massachusetts or Berkshire's businesses.

All of the Western Mass businesses that were fined were disciplined for the same alleged violation and were issued the enforcement orders on the same day (Jan. 22). The violation was for not filing a completed application following a previously observed violation relating to vapor recovery.

Here are the Western Mass businesses fined by the DEP in January:

  • Pilot Travel Center, on Haynes Road, Sturbridge, $1,000
  • Sparky’s, Boston Road, Springfield, $500
  • Wyckoff Country Club, Easthampton Road, Holyoke, $1,000
  • Granville Cheese Store, Granby Road, Granville, $500
  • Westfield Barnes Regional Airport, Airport Road, Westfield, $1,000
  • Westfield Gulf, Elm Street, Westfield, $500
  • City View Mini Mart, Memorial Drive, Chicopee, $1,000
  • Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative, Boston Road, Wilbraham, $1,000.
